American Songbook artist Keren Ann (who will be performing in The Allen Room next Wednesday night) talks about her latest CD and past work with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, among many other fascinating things, in today’s NY Daily News. Here’s a short excerpt:
“The extreme nature of her lyrics makes a fascinating contrast to the measure of her voice. Ann doesn’t sound like a classic femme fatale. She has a far lighter style. Ironically, she sings some lyrics about overengaged love in a voice of utter detachment. Likewise, her music will contrast eerie and melancholic tones with bright and playful ones.”
