After a beautiful day yesterday, we’re mentally preparing ourselves for rain and snow tomorrow and counting the days until we are back in the warmth and sunshine of the summer. One of our favorite bits of summer is our free Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival and apparently you love it too! Time Out just put us on the “50 Reasons Why NYC is the Greatest City in the World” list and we couldn’t be happier. Oprah is spending some time with her friend, Valerie Simpson! Simpson was recently featured on an episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter, a show on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Lincoln Center Out of Doors has been selected as a finalist in the 2012 About.com World Music Readers’ Choice awards in the Best World Music Concert Series category. Between now and March 21, make sure to vote for the festival, and winners will be announced on March 30.

Last Saturday, Vermont Public Radio aired a full program featuring recordings by artists who are going to appear in “She’s Got the Power” on July 30 at Lincoln Center Out of Doors. According to VPR, “It’s a celebration of a New York pop music sound that dominated the radio airwaves in the pre-British Invasion 1960’s, and which elevated female artists, many of them women of color, into the upper echelons of the then male-dominated teenage rock & roll scene.”

 

This week’s edition of WNET’s This Week at Lincoln Center features Lincoln Center Out of Doors. The 2011 season will begin with over 100 free performances in the plaza, including some from Billy Bragg and Mavis Staples.

 

Here’s a wonderful interview with Jill Sternheimer, associate director for public programming at Lincoln Center, about July 30 when the girl group era of the 60s is celebrated all day with concerts, talks and a film screening – and all for FREE as part of Lincoln Center Out of Doors.
